Fosterchild

Fosterchild is the latest work of drummer Fabian Arends and bassist David Helm. Both are responsible here both conceptually and compositionally as joint bandleaders. Fosterchild is an impressively sonorous and confident statement of two musicians pursuing their own vision. The intensity and lively vibrancy of the thoughtful and exciting music leaves no doubt that this is a project of the heart. This is also how the album title should be understood, explains Fabian Arends. "The name, in German Pflegekind, reflects quite well our way of working. We are in the musical sense constantly on the search for the new, unknown, strange perhaps. To it we give our full attention, absorb it and make it our own until it is no longer strange." As bandleader and joint rhythm section, drummer Fabian Arends and bassist David Helm have long been among the established protagonists of the German creative jazz scene. They have also been heard in joint projects with Florian Ross, Niels Klein and Jürgen Friedrich, as well as in Arends' own quartet with Wanja Slavin and Simon Seidl. Arends is also part of Jason Seizer's Cinema Paradiso with Jonas Westergaard and Pablo Held or the Thomas Rückert Trio with Thomas Morgan. David Helm can be heard with Sebastian Gramss' Bassmasse, the Philip Zoubek Trio, Pollon or his own indie pop band Marek Johnson.
